Overnight Fame for The Olive Oil Girl
In a hilarious turn of events, my holiday season was filled with more than just festive cheer. After uploading a simple video onto TikTok, I became an internet sensation, gaining over 115 million views, 13 million likes, 815 thousand comments, and 80 thousand new followers.
I’ve never been much of a numbers gal, but what I can tell you is this- that’s a lot of people. In a positive turn of events, eyes were watching my videos not only on TikTok but also on Instagram and Youtube as well. I’ve been a self proclaimed “Youtuber” since 2019 and throughout my years making videos, it felt so utterly validating to watch the view numbers go up.
Not only was I thrown into the spotlight but also into the brand deal gauntlet. My messages, emails, and this very website were filled to the brim with PR gift offers, potential brand deals, and interview requests. Staying true to my morals, I carefully selected which brands to work with, and turned down the ones I don’t actually use in my daily life.
In the first month, I partnered with Graza Olive Oil, McoBeauty, Suave, Flamingo Shave Club, and CeraVe.
I was also featured in Vulture, Rolling Stone, Embedded, Forbes, Yahoo News, The Huffington Post, Good Morning America, and as a trivia question on NPR’s “Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me.” That’s not even naming all of them.
My hometown region was more than thrilled to celebrate the success of a Wheeling girl. I was on the front page of The Intelligencer (WV’s oldest Newspaper,) I was given a featured story on WTRF channel 7 News, and I was brought on as a live guest to WKKX Radio for a half hour spot.
Between getting recognized in Union Square, a subway platform, and at a Coldstone Creamery in Brooklyn, the adjustment has been very entertaining. I truly love the opportunity that has come from my viral mishap story, and I hope to continue the momentum.
